Scripture Union Daily Guide 23 September 2026 Outline
The founding of Babylon, as a city, can be traced to Nimrod in Genesis 10:8-10. In a negative way, they tried to measure up to God in building a tower. Throughout scripture, Babylon has been characterized by idolatry and defiance to God’s word. In this passage, we see the picture of a mystical woman who portrays the image of religious Babylon, excelling in idolatry and carrying out great abominable acts. However, it is time for judgment (Revelation 17:1).
Notice how this woman is described in Revelation 17:4-6. She takes pleasure in persecuting the believers and aims to deceive the lost (Revelation 17:8) and defy the Lamb (Revelation 17:14). We can only withstand this deception if we abide in God’s word (Ephesians 4:14). The falsehood will flourish for a season but will later be attacked by the same institutions that patronized her (Revelation 17:16,17) and be crushed by the Lamb when He returns with His saints (Revelation 17:14; 2 Thessalonians 2:8).
The beast (whose source is Satan) depicts the Roman Empire that controlled the world and had ceased to exist but will be revived and will be finally destroyed at the second coming of Christ (Revelation 19:20). Only in Christ can you overcome the antics of false preachers.

•God’s strength and grace to believe in the faithfulness of God, knowing that He cannot lie
•His visitations in areas where individuals are expecting God’s interventions
•Good health and provisions for all the brethren and their families
